Exterior Brick Chimney & Liner Work

Project Overview

This project follows an exterior brick chimney from its existing condition into active work at the side of a shingle-sided home. The earlier views show a stepped masonry base and a tall, narrower chimney body rising above the gable. The work-stage view shows ladders, brick debris, a protective sheet and a worker handling a flexible metal liner at the chimney opening.

The gallery is a record of assessment and work in progress. It gives a detailed view of the chimney’s original form and the activity at its top, without presenting a finished reconstruction that is not included in the supplied sequence.

Analysis

The existing chimney has several changes in width and numerous irregular mortar joints. Its broad lower section projects from the wall, while the tall upper stack rises alongside the gable and ends in two different metal terminations. These features make the original configuration identifiable across the first two views.

In the work-stage photograph, the top of the stack is open and a flexible metal tube is being handled above it. Removed bricks are visible at ground level, and a sheet covers the work face. The images support descriptions of masonry removal and liner work, while the final liner connections and the later masonry finish remain outside this photo sequence.

Process

  1. Existing condition: the first two views document the chimney’s tall stack, stepped lower body and original top terminations.
  2. Masonry work: the later view shows an opened chimney top and removed bricks at the base of the work area.
  3. Liner handling: a worker holds the flexible metal liner above the opening while the chimney face is covered with protective sheeting.

Outcome

The supplied record ends during chimney and liner work. Its value is the documented progression from the existing masonry configuration to the opened work area and liner handling. A future finished view can extend this same project record without replacing the earlier condition and process photographs.

Project Details

Materials Used

  • Existing red and brown brick chimney masonry.
  • Visible mortar joints and stepped masonry sections.
  • Flexible metal liner being handled at the chimney opening.
  • Protective sheeting and ladders used around the photographed work area.

Methods & Techniques

The work-stage view shows access from ladders on both sides of the chimney, a sheet covering its face and a flexible liner being guided at the top opening. Brick debris below the work area records masonry removal. The description stays with those visible operations rather than assigning an unseen liner specification or reconstructed final profile.

Key Highlights

  • Existing-condition and active-work photographs kept together.
  • Distinctive stepped exterior chimney geometry.
  • Flexible metal liner visible during handling.
  • Masonry removal documented by the open top and brick debris.
  • Work-in-progress status reflected honestly in the description.
