Fieldstone Chimney & Copper Flashing
Project Overview
An irregular gray stone chimney rises above a textured shingle roof, creating a strong contrast between the masonry’s larger shapes and the roof’s repeated courses. Pale mortar joints trace the outline of individual stones, while copper-toned metal surrounds the chimney where it meets the roofing.
The rooftop view includes the chimney’s broad side, its narrower return and the roof junction below. Two dark capped openings are visible at the top, completing the exterior composition.
Analysis
The chimney’s irregular stone pattern is bounded by a largely rectangular outline. At the roofline, the metal detail introduces a more continuous band between that textured masonry and the smaller shingle pattern.
A folded corner is visible on the nearer face. Along the side, the metal follows the sloping roof junction, making the difference between the vertical chimney and the inclined roofing especially clear.
Process
The visible detail can be read from the roof upward: shingle courses meet the metal at the base, the metal turns around the corner beneath the masonry, and the stonework continues to the capped openings. The single rooftop view records that exterior sequence and its change from sloping to vertical surfaces.
Outcome
The chimney presents a defined stone profile above the gray roof. Copper-toned metal gives the base a clear visual boundary, and the capped openings remain prominent at the top. The close view brings particular attention to the junction and folded corner detail.

Materials Used
The documented surfaces include gray stone masonry, pale mortar joints, gray roof shingles and copper-colored sheet metal at the base. Dark metal caps sit above the chimney openings. The reddish-brown flashing color contrasts with both the stone and the roof.
Methods & Techniques
Irregular stone faces are set within visible mortar joints. At the base, formed metal surfaces turn around the chimney corner and extend along the roof junction. The overlapping shingle courses remain distinct beside this metal band, preserving a readable transition between the two exterior surfaces.
Key Highlights
Irregular gray stones outlined by pale mortar. Copper-toned metal along the roof junction. A visible folded detail at the chimney corner. Two capped openings above the masonry.
