Shingle Roof on a White Contemporary Home

Project Overview

A broad gray shingle roof follows the distinctive outline of this white contemporary home. Curved eaves, tall white wall sections and several connected roof planes give the exterior a sculptural profile. The roofing surface provides a quieter counterpoint: overlapping courses and mixed gray tones bring continuity to an otherwise complex arrangement of heights and shapes.

Home Pro’s aerial views document both work in progress and the more fully covered roof. They also establish how the roofing relates to the surrounding home, from the skylights and chimney structures to the lower roof beside the rear terrace. The project’s visual character comes from that combination of a consistent surface and an unusually varied roofline.

Analysis

The roof’s geometry is its defining detail. Broad surfaces meet narrower sections, while curved perimeter edges sit beside straight ridges and white vertical walls. A single view from ground level would reveal only part of this arrangement; the aerial coverage makes the relationships between the different elevations clear.

Roof openings add another layer of detail. Rectangular skylights interrupt some surfaces, and white chimney structures rise above others. Around these features, the gray courses remain the dominant visual element. The white wall sections divide the roof into distinct volumes without breaking the overall color relationship between the connected areas.

Process

The progress view contains several different conditions at once: installed shingles on one section, exposed areas beside workers, and a broad roof plane covered with light-colored sheet material. Ladders and work materials are also visible around the perimeter.

In the other aerial view, gray shingles cover the corresponding roof planes. The paired views therefore document a change in the visible roof surface while keeping the home’s curved edges, white walls and roof openings identifiable throughout.

Outcome

The later view presents a continuous gray surface across the home’s connected sloping roofs. The result retains the character of the curved eaves and stepped elevations while giving those separate areas a shared finish. Skylights and chimney structures remain prominent details within the larger composition.

Project Details

Materials Used

The visible exterior combines gray roof shingles, white chimney and wall surrounds, and rectangular skylights. Variations within the shingle color create a textured surface rather than a flat block of gray. The glass openings and pale vertical surfaces remain distinct against the roofing, making the transitions between these materials easy to read.

Methods & Techniques

Overlapping shingle courses extend across the sloping planes and follow the changing perimeter of the home. Their repeated horizontal pattern contrasts with the curved eaves below. At the skylights and raised structures, the surface is arranged around defined openings rather than continuing across them, preserving the roof’s individual architectural features.

Key Highlights

Curved eaves and several connected roof elevations create a distinctive contemporary silhouette. Gray shingle courses visually connect the broad and narrow roof sections. Aerial coverage includes both exposed work areas and more fully covered surfaces. White chimney structures and rectangular skylights remain clear architectural accents.
